Kareena Kapoor on Hollywood, Bollywood and producing movies

I would not like to go there. Besides, a lot of Hindi movies are watched by people abroad, so there is no point in doing two-bit roles in Hollywood films. People love the song and dance regime, so there is no need to do ‘their’ kind of films. Our body of work speaks for itself and language is not a barrier, so a global acceptance of our kind of movies will work better for Indian stars.

The future demands that we stick to making films that run, make money and entertain. That’s what our country wants. Entertainment. Despite the success of multiplex movies, we have realised that there is no comparison with the numbers that a hinterland hit can get you. Urban cinema is good to have in your repertoire, but collections are always the best for films like Bodyguard, Singham and Dabangg, because that's what India is. For stars, it is good to do a bit of both.

As for stars strengthening their position by turning producers, it’s primarily for those who want to make a certain type of film. I, for one, certainly don't want to get into production. It's a 24/7 job and very stressful. I see Saif and it's crazy. There’s too much pressure. I don't think I would be a good producer. I think women should stick to acting and what they are good at.

Besides, your success as a producer ultimately depends on your work as an actor and your drawing power as a star. You have to be a star and you have to do great work for you to bring something to the table. Tom Hanks or the Khans back home can afford to produce the kind of films they like, because of the stars that they are. Films and acting are something actors should never let go of because that is what takes them to another level.
