Hairstylist Pompey Hans on Kareena !!!

Pompy studied hairstyling at the Toni & Guy Academy in London. He then began assisting Bollywood makeup artist Cory Walia. Cory really liked Pompy's work and recommended him to try his hand in Bollywood.

Pompy got his first break in Bollywood with Darna Mana Hai where he styled Sameera Reddy. There was no looking back from there. He even acted in movies like Fashion and Dev D.

Pinkvilla.com caught up with Mr. Hans for an exclusive interview where he talked on Kareena Kapoor's looks for her upcoming movies.

How has your experience working with Kareena been?

I have been with Kareena Kapoor for almost 4 years since Kambakht Ishq. She is a beautiful girl both from the inside and outside. She is a very loyal person. She may be the top star but she is very chilled out and dildaar. She is a very simple girl at the same time very classy. I have had an amazing experience working with her.

Can you briefly talk about Kareena's looks in her upcoming movies?

In Ra.One she plays a Punjabi housewife with a kid settled in London. So her makeup is quite simple yet classy. For her hair, I gave a straight hair look with blow dry and a little bit of bounce. Her look is different for the song Chammak Challo as the movie takes a turn post this song.

Agent Vinod is a thriller. She has a couple of different looks in the movie. Her hairstyle changes as the movie goes through different locales. There is a mujra song in the movie where her look is that of a Pakistani girl. So she has a nose ring etc. For her hair we added soft curls with extensions.

In Reema Khagti's next, Kareena plays a very different character from all her previous movies. It’s a thriller. Her look in the movie is just “Wow”. I can’t reveal much but she will look out of this world in the movie. Straight long hair with streaks is the look I have created for her in the movie.

How does Kareena achieve her near perfect hairdos at her various public appearances?

She prefers bouncy blow-dry for her everyday look. We use good voluminising products like L’Oreal or Tigi. I use a root booster and volume hairspray.

What are Kareena’s hair care rituals?

She uses a high end shampoo and conditioner for her hair and gets an oil massage once a month.

Does Kareena give you inputs on her looks for her movies?

Of course she does. We work on it together like a team. She is quite aware of the latest fashion trends. It’s my choice but her decision. She is very flexible and is ready to trying out new hairdos.

On a day off work, how does Kareena style her hair?

She loves the messy pileup look. That’s her personal style. Take all the hair up in a rubber band in a messy way. That is her favorite look.

Any hair-styling for our viewers

It really depends on the face structure and hair texture. I really like mid length with layers.
Make a concoction of 4 oils - almond, castor, olive and coconut. Warm the oil and massage your scalp with it. It works as a great conditioner and stimulates the roots of the hair. Do this at least once a month.

Saif and Priyanka pairing would work well : Kareena Kapoor

With three back-to-back blockbusters, I almost expect Kareena Kapoor to be sitting pretty on her throne with a tiara on, waving her magic wand.

Instead, I meet the star as we know her. Candid and confident as she talks about love, life and leading the big, bad Bollywood race...

You must have your hands full, guarding the number one status you've reclaimed with Bodyguard...
I am more than happy being number 100 on the list, too! But that doesn't take away from the fact that Bodyguard has shattered records. I'm enjoying every bit of it. I work to see and sense this adulation, not for tags that are hardly permanent.

But a Salman Khan film is always all about him. The heroine is generally incidental...
I can proudly say that here's a Salman film where the girl finally has something to do apart from hanging around and singing songs. Bodyguard is predominantly about the heroine. There is no movie without her.

Many say you're piggyback riding on the Khans' success. Is it easy to earn a hit that way?
It was the Khans who came to me. They could have chosen anyone, but they wanted me. If I don't work with Aamir, Salman, Saif, Shah Rukh and Imran, with whom am I supposed to work with? They are practically half the industry. I'm pretty lucky. I mean, I'm the only actress to have worked with Aamir in two back-to-back films.

Your equation with the three big Khans must be quite different...
They basically see me as Lolo's (Karisma Kapoor) little sister. With each of them, the relationship is very professional. Like Salman has his quirks, so do SRK and Aamir. They also know how I work, so there is a comfort level.

Is Aamir your favourite of the lot?
Everyone knows I am a huge Aamir fan. We share great chemistry, but I think Saif and I also make a deadly pair in Agent Vinod. It's probably why he insisted on casting me in this film.

Are you insecure when Saif casts other heroines in his home productions?
Not at all! I'm actually looking forward to a film where he'd be cast opposite Priyanka (Chopra). There's something very approachable about her and something very suave and sexy about Saif. Their pairing would work well.

On a personal note, we hear Saif and you are getting hitched next February...
I also hear about how many carats Saif has gifted me, and the desert we'll be serving at our wedding! It's very intriguing. I barely manage to meet my family and Saif and people are already planning my wedding in their heads.

Why hide marriage plans, especially since you've said you're ready for it?
I am the only actress who can proudly proclaim to have a personal and professional life. I don't understand when people say things like they don't have time for love. I have given some of my biggest hits with Saif in my life. What bigger proof that it works if you balance it out. There was a point when I said I want to do nothing but work. Now that has changed. My relationship is of utmost importance. So when a date is fixed, we will let everyone know.

Is there family pressure? What does your sister have to say?
She asks me to enjoy life and work at my own pace. Plus, nothing will change after marriage. I may cook for Saif when I get the time, but otherwise it's going to be the same.

You're doing the Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai sequel. Would you be comfortable if (former boyfriend) Shahid joins the cast?
I still have to read the script, but I would be okay with anyone.

Are you in touch with Shahid?
I don't pick up the phone and talk to him, but there is no bad blood between us. It's a chapter in my life both Saif and I respect, and it will always be like that.

Lastly, is there a role you recently saw and wish you did?
All of Meryl Streep's roles. It's incredible what she does. I wish, when I am 60, I work as much as her. That would be something.

Kareena requests for her wax statue to be brought to Mumbai

Kareena Kapoor will be flagging off a global exhibition of the 'Bollywood figurines' of Madame Tussaud's museum. It was decided earlier that the figurines will be traveling to six metros in the world but now Kareena has decided to flag it off herself. Sources also say that the actor has requested that her figurine be bought down to Mumbai as well for her fans.

"There has been a request from Kareena asking us if we can bring down her figurine to Mumbai. Since it is an ongoing global exhibition, it can be brought down to Mumbai (there's Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan etc among the wax figurines on exhibition). They are fuguring out the logistics," says a source.

Sources say that bringing the wax figurines down from Dubai (that is the nearest location from Mumbai where the exhibition is being held) will be a time consuming and expensive affair but it is not an impossible task. "The wax statues need to be packed at a special temperature and it has to be maintained all through. They also need a proper place to set them up. There are plenty of places like that in Mumbai and therefore not impossible. However, some of the officials don't want a change in the earlier chalked out schedule. But the request has been taken into consideration," the source adds.

Kareena's wax figure will be unveiled in October 2011. The six cities that the Bollywood wax figures will travel to include London, Hong Kong and Bangkok, thus reflecting a growing global interest in Bollywood.Kareena Kapoor seemed too ecstatic at the developments. "It is an honour and a privilege for me to have my wax-figure at Madame Tussauds and even more so to flag off a global Bollywood exhibition. This is a moment of pride for Indian cinema," the actor said.

The management at the Blackpool branch of Madamde Tussauds, UK, also confirmed that Kareena has consented to flag off the tour but didn't confirm whether Mumbai is on their agenda or not.

"We are very excited to have Kareena in Blackpool to launch our Bollywood figures. It is a real honour to have her here and we know that UK will be very excited to see her and her new wax figure. It is the first time she has been immortalised in wax and the first time these figures will be grouped together. It is the perfect place to launch our Bollywood World tour with the dedicated Bollywood room and look forward to welcoming her fans when the figure goes on display in October," said Matthew Titherington, General Manager at Madame Tussauds, Blackpool.

Billion Dollar Bebo

Are the congratulatory messages still flowing in?

Trust me, a lot of people are not getting tickets for the movie so they are still waiting to watch it. This is a second time after Jab We Met that I have received this kind of reaction. Ek hota hai ki har film ke liye everyone sends congratulatory messages. But when you have the kind of success that Bodyguard has, the response is different. Everyone knew that Bodyguard would do well and it would open with a bumper response but no one expected a response this huge, so abhi high chal raha hai uska.

After a long time, the heroine has played a substantial role in a Salman Khan starrer, in Bodyguard.

Many people have told me that this has not happened in a long time. The second half of the film becomes a totally emotional love story. I think people are a little taken aback. But I guess they should have known that since I starred in the film, I wouldn’t have done a small role or just a song-and-dance sequence. Everyone should know that it would be a substantial role, like a takkar ka role, which has always been a criterion with me. Even in Golmaal 3, although there were so many guys, Dabboo’s character was always in focus. That is important to me.

Are people now writing scripts with Kareena Kapoor in mind? Or has it always been that way?

(Pauses) People know that if they want me in their film, they would have to give me a meaty role or that there has to be something for me to do, otherwise I would not do the film. I have given off this vibe from the very beginning, that I will not do just a song-and-dance routine. I love song and dance in our cinema but I also need something more in the roles I play.

How confident were you about the success of Bodyguard?

I had told everyone that I was confident about it. In fact, everyone was shocked about how confident I was. I announced on my BB status that it would be a hit because the script was very different from what Salman has been doing for the last three to four years. And, of course, Eid pe lagne wali thi toh people would surely watch it.

But did you expect the film to create history in terms of the opening and first week?

I think the chemistry was evident in the promos themselves. So I was 100 per cent sure the film would be a super-hit. I was expecting it to do well. But this dhamaka has been too much of a shock.

Everyone is talking about Ajay, Aamir and Salman’s movies crossing Rs 100 crore. But no one is talking about you. Three of your films have done well. What do you think of that?

(Laughs) I think everyone is talking about it. I think it’s the right kind of script and also that these guys are making the right kind of choices. I’m happy that all of them have wanted me in their movies. All of them were, like, Bebo ko le lo. When Salman saw the original version of Bodyguard, he told Alvira and Atul ke iss role ke liye Bebo ko hi lena.

Since the three films that did well feature no other actress, you are competing with yourself.

Right now, yes. And also with each of my future releases, I will be competing with myself.

Do you remember the trade said you were jinxed with the Khans?

(Cuts in) This industry likes to assign tags. So someone becomes their lucky mascot. But picture script pe chalti hai aur kitna chalti hai that also depends on the script. Some films make a certain amount of profit and some films like 3 Idiots may run forever. I am very lucky to be part of 3 Idiots, Golmaal 3 and Bodyguard, which have become cult films and have broken records. So the script is very important.

The films made in the early 2000s were different kind of films but how many of them crossed Rs 100 crore? This started happening with 3 Idiots and Ghajini. I just happened to be in those films, where the scripts started improving a lot. Raju (Raj Kumar Hirani) was sure that I do 3 Idiots as there were two important scenes that he felt only I could do. That’s a bigger compliment.

Will anything less than Rs 100 crore satisfy you now?

I think RA.One should do Rs 200 crore, more than 200 in fact. That’s what we are expecting as RA.One is one man’s film. It’s about one man’s passion. I’ve worked on this film and I know more than anyone else that Shah (Shah Rukh Khan) has really put his life into it. And he’s done everything. So I am hoping that this film break all records. If that happens, I will be in every film that breaks all records. (Laughs)

Since you’re working with all the Khans, that doesn’t seem impossible.

That’s a big honour. And what is really great is that each one knows I was in the other’s films. Like, they knew I was in RA.One as SRK signed me first. Salman knew I was in RA.One but that didn’t stop him from signing me in Bodyguard. Aamir knew I had signed Bodyguard but he still called me for Reema’s film. Saif knew I was doing all these films but he insisted that I do Agent Vinod. Saif was sure that only I could play the role. So people are, like, arrey yeh uski camp ki hai etc. etc. It’s all rubbish! You get work because of your talent and those who want to work with you… directors who feel that you suit a particular role.

Speaking of Agent Vinod… Will we get to see you doing action in the film?

In Agent Vinod, I did a little bit of action but I am not the action kind of girl. I am more the chhammak chhalo girl and I like doing performance-oriented roles. Action is not my cup of tea. During RA.One, I told Shah, “Dance kara lo mere se but don’t make me do action.” I have told Saif also, “Please don’t make me do action.”

But you have done almost everything and action is the only thing left. So don’t you think you should do what you haven’t done before?

No. There’s more to cinema than doing action-oriented roles. Like Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine… I am excited about it. I have got a different role. I want to play roles that I really enjoy. I don’t want to do a role because I haven’t done it before or because someone else is doing it. I am not going to do action just because someone is doing it. I don’t think I would look good doing action.

With Heroine, you’re now the highest-paid actress.

Shhhhh. (Laughs)

All your forthcoming releases are different from each other. Is that deliberate?

It is important for me to do different types of films. I want to do films where I have a great role that I haven’t done before. RA.One is a huge film and I have a lovely role. Like, even in Bodyguard, people were wondering, kya role hoga yeh film mein? RA.One mein, the girl is very important as the whole film is based on her family.

But every film has a male-oriented title… Bodyguard, RA.One and Agent Vinod.

(Laughs) Even in Agent Vinod, the girl’s role is super-powerful. I think now the directors are becoming very conscious of the girl’s role. Even in Jab We Met, the girl’s role was really important. Heroines today are very lucky compared to Karisma’s time. They had to act in Shyam Benegal’s films to prove themselves as actresses. Here, we have some great roles to do. Roles are actually being witten for actresses today.

Actors today are reluctant to accept more than two to three films but you’re doing five films back to back.

I want to take a holiday. I am not going to do this next year. So many films karne se we are all dead. It’s just one big film after another. Next year, I will accept only two big films, that’s it.

Five films in hand (RA.One, Agent Vinod, Ek Main Ekk Tu, Dhuan and Heroine) and 17 brand endorsements. How do you do it?

(Laughs) Now even brand people are getting irritated as I don’t have dates. That’s why I want to do two great films a year. Commercial films and great films, good roles, and time to endorse my brands. You know, they have been very upset as I have been shooting continuously and all of them outdoor shoots… seven outdoor shoots. RA.One was in London, Bodyguard was in Patiala. I haven’t seen my mother in months. I get to see her once a month. She is, like, what’s the point if you are making so much money but I get to see my daughter just once? Now, I want to give more time to my family.
