"My Heroine wont disappoint." - Madhur Bhandarkar

A leading newspaper had recently stated that soon-to-be-married actors, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, have made a pact of sorts that they will not shoot intimate scenes with any of their co-stars in future.

The report came soon after Kareena's next big ticket film, Heroine went on floors, and reports about Saif having to do steamy scenes with Deepika Padukone in Race 2, came out.

Bring this up, and Madhur Bhandarkar, the director of Heroine, says, "Kareena is a thorough professional. She won't ever disappoint her directors. She never asks for alterations in scenes. She suggests ways to make them better and participates in discussions. She got into the skin of her character from day one last week. So, I don't know anything about any news story, but I know my heroine is doing a fabulous job."

The controversial movie, which was first offered to Kareena, followed by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and then to Kareena again, went on floors last week at Film City, Goregaon. Over the last week, scenes have been shot at different locations across the city, including malls and beaches. After a 20-day schedule, the shooting will take a small break and resume in January with the second schedule.

"We started with a bang. It was a buzzy song, followed by a photo shoot that Dabboo Ratnani, who is playing himself in my film, will be seen doing with Kareena and Arjun (Rampal). Their chemistry and energy was fantastic," says an elated Madhur, who will shoot portions of his film, based on Hollywood and Bollywood actors, in Delhi and a couple of locations abroad.

"Over the last week, we have shot a lot of intensely dramatic scenes with Kareena. She, as I had thought, is a dream to work with."

Apparently, the actor broke down on the sets a couple of times while shooting the emotional scenes. "It's true," says Madhur. "We didn't have to provide her with any additional help. Once we got rolling, after a detailed discussion of the scene, she actually had tears in her eyes while delivering her lines. I couldn't have found a better heroine for Heroine."

"Kareena but no Salman in my next" , says Bodyguard director

Filmmaker Siddhique of Bodyguard fame will miss his favourite actor Salman Khan on the sets of his next film which will be produced by Shyam Bajaj. The director cites the busy schedule of Salman, the reason for his reluctance to approach the superstar but that isn’t the case of Kareena Kapoor.

Still basking on the glory of Bodyguard, Siddhique can’t withhold raving about Salman and reveals with a heavy heart, “Salman is a fabulous actor but I unfortunately won’t be able to rope him in my upcoming venture which is a complete entertainer like Bodyguard. I can’t even approach him as he is tied up with commitments to others filmmakers for another three to four years.”

On being probed about the status of the film and star cast, he informs, “Since, it is in the scripting stage, I have not yet finalized on the star cast but I’m keen to work with Kareena again since she will be available at that time but only she fits the bill perfectly. But, final decision will be taken as soon as script is ready. I will zero on the main leads which will be a big star cast, as per the requirement of the script.”

When further probed about what if the character in the film demands for Salman’s presence, the director concludes with a quick reply, “In that case, I will wait for Salman to begin the shoot.”

Karan Johar talks about Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu

Karan Johar's primary reason for casting Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan together was obvious: here were two good-looking actors who would make a great-looking couple on screen. It was a casting coup because Imran was the youngest Khan yet to serenade Bebo, and their pairing did get the trade to sit up and take notice. Of course, after a month-long schedule in Las Vegas, director Shakun Batra realised that these two not only looked good together, they even shared terrific chemistry.

Unveiling the first promo of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, a Valentine's Day 2012 release by Dharma Productions and UTV Motion Pictures, Karan says, "EMAET is the quintessential date film. Shakun has treated it like a slice of life film, but it is a romantic comedy all the way. Kareena and Imran play Rihaana and Rahul - two diametrically opposite people - who find themselves in a common destination and go on to make the most of it."

The film's first promo is peppered with words like 'sex' and 'bum' and has a youthful appeal to it; and despite their squabbling on screen, the chemistry between Bebo and Imran transcends beautifully. Before launching the promo, Imran confessed that in his three years in Bollywood, the one actress he has deeply admired is Kareena. "Shakun and I knew that we could make EMAET only with her," he says.

Bebo is undoubtedly flattered with all the attention. "My 'Khan'tastic journey continues. Imran is the youngest Khan I have worked with, and also the sweetest."

Karan adds, "Dharma's slate for 2012 is an eclectic mix. We have the intense Agneepath coming out on January 26, and three weeks later we have the fun EMAET."

Lavishing praise on his young director, Karan adds, "Shakun comes from good stock, having assisted on films like Rock On!! and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. His entire team - including his writers - are so young that the vibe they've brought to the film is very infectious."

Thrilled with music director Amit Trivedi's compositions, the filmmaker says, "Amit has worked with us on one track for Wake Up Sid. Here he has given us some amazing foot-tapping, youthful tracks."

He also adds that both Kareena and Imran have a special place in his life. "Kareena will soon be given a cabin in our office," he laughs. "She is threatening to take over the business at Dharma. As for Imran, this is our second film with him and I can tell you that it has been so enjoyable that we may now look to work with him, at short notice again."

Bebo gets over Rs 7 crore for Heroine?

Bebo gets over Rs 7 crore for Heroine?

This year, Bodyguard and RA.One have both raked in over Rs 100 crore, making it a successful year for Kareena Kapoor, the female lead of both films. And cashing in on the films’ good run at the box office, the actor has decided to hike her fee.

Apparently, she will pocket over Rs 7 crore for her next, Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine.

“Bebo was offered Heroine twice, but she didn’t give it a green signal because she and the makers, UTV and Bhandarkar, couldn’t agree on the fee. But now, things are sorted,” says a close associate of the actor.
If the reported amount is true, Kareena will replace Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Bollywood’s highest paid female actor, according to trade sources. The latter had starred alongside Rajinikanth in Robot last year for a reported fee of around Rs 6 crore.

Ask Kareena to comment and she says that she’s “up for the challenge” in terms of her role, but refuses to talk about money. “Till date, I’ve never discussed my pay cheque in the media. But for Heroine, I am getting only what I rightly deserve,” she says with a smile.

In the recent past, she has acted in blockbusters like 3 Idiots (Rs 200 crore, 2009) and Golmaal 3 (over Rs 100 crore, 2010). But she is wary of the pressure that comes with her success: “On the first day of the shoot, I was nervous because there’s a lot of pressure. We plan to do something very different.”

The actor was also recently voted the sexiest Asian woman in the world by the weekly newspaper, Eastern Eye. She says, “I couldn’t really believe it. I started laughing when I was told about it. I am not used to it. And that too from Asia, which is a huge continent. The thought is scary and unbelievable. When I told Saif, he was like, ‘Why Asia? It’s in the world.’ I think that was quite sweet.”

And although Kareena has been anointed the ‘100-crore heroine’, having worked in four such films 3 Idiots, Golmaal 3, Bodyguard and RA.One, she hopes Heroine too rakes in the money. She says, “That’s all because the pressure (of the 100-crore tag) is on my head.”

The original choice for Heroine’s lead role, Kareena only stepped into the project once Aishwarya backed out after announcing she was pregnant. Nonetheless, she’s looking forward to her role: “My character in the film is me. It’s something I can relate to, and so I hope I will be able to do it well.”

Kareena & Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu

When Kareena is busy, so is Saif

The weekend finally saw the much-delayed Heroine get underway, with Kareena Kapoor stepping into what is touted to be the 'role of her career'.

And while Madhur gets his magnum opus up and running with Kareena, her beau Saif Ali Khan is putting his own plans in place. Saif is currently trying to wrap up two of his films: Agent Vinod and Cocktail.

“Now that Kareena will be busy with Heroine, Saif plans to complete the shoot of Cocktail, for which he has left for Cape Town,” says a friend of the couple. “They try to get together during their spare time, and accordingly match their shooting schedules as well.”

Cocktail has been in the works for quite some time now, while Agent Vinod too has been going on for over a year and a half. They have left Saif with only one major release in almost two years: Aarakshan.

“Saif doesn’t mind the time it takes though, as it’s a film that’s really special for him. It’s a love story written by Imtiaz Ali, and has elements of friendship and betrayal. He is keen on Cocktail being the next major release of his after Agent Vinod,” says a co-actor.

Meanwhile, Kareena couldn’t have asked for a better film than Heroine, considering she has just worked in male-centric films like Bodyguard and Ra.One.

Even though she insists that’s not the way she is approaching the venture.

“All that mattered to me was that Madhur came to me again with the script, and I did it because it was a great film,” she clarifies.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu Trailer runs into trouble

Sex education might be made mandatory in schools these days, but the Central Board of Film Certification still feels it’s is a dirty word. Debutant director Shakun Batra just learnt this, last week, when he had to face the ire of the censor board officials over the trailer for his film Ek Main Aur Ek Tu.

Starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor, the trailer of this Karan Johar and UTV Motion Pictures produced venture was refused an U certificate simply because it had the word ‘sex’ used in one of the sentences. This ditkat on the trailer implies that it cannot be attached to U and U/A films and it cannot be aired on national television.

Explaining the scene that ran into objection, a source told Mumbai Mirror, “The film has a scene where a person asks Kareena and Imran if they’ve had sex. To this, Kareena replies ‘Yes’ and Imran says ‘No’. The objection was ridiculous. Trailers of many other recent films with objectionable dialogues and scenes have been given the nod.”

Needless to say, Karan and Shakun were shocked with the censor board decision. “KJo and Shakun have however, taken it in their stride. They are now reworking on the new version. If this same decision was passed earlier, Karan and Shakun might have decided to ‘beep’ out the word. However, since beeps are not allowed any longer, they will have to rework a lot of things to get the flow right,” revealed the source.

Though the reworking of the trailer means overshooting the budget, neither KJo nor Shakun want to compromise in the publicity of their film. “They want the trailer to get an U certificate and not an A. They want it to get attached to as many films as possible,” added the source.

When contacted, Karan Johar confirmed that the trailer had run into trouble because of the word ‘sex’. “For now, I am attaching the current trailer of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu to The Dirty Picture, which has been given an A certificate.

I wouldn’t like to say much on this. Frankly, it wouldn’t be correct for me to say for or against the censor board’s decision taken on the trailer of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. As a law-abiding filmmaker, I would rather do what I have been told (pauses). I am sure that they would be cooperative when we submit the new version.”

"Personality makes you sexy" - Kareena

Kareena Kapoor is, in her own words, "super-happy" and the excitement is writ large on Bebo's face too as After Hrs catches up with the Bolly hottie on the day she kickstarts her new film Heroine. Admitting that this year has been extremely special for her, she reveals that she finds it hard to choose what's made it most special her films crossing the Rs 100 crore mark, announcement of her marriage next year, her wax statue being installed at Madame Tussauds or the most recent being voted the sexiest Asian woman. In a quick tete-a-tete, the actor talks about films, marriage plans and reveals what being the sexiest means to her.

You are ending the year on a good note…
Not just good, the best in fact (laughs). And that I do each year, as I always end the year and bring in the new one vacationing with Saif (beau, actor Saif Ali Khan) in the Swiss Alps. This year is no different and I can't wait to take off on that break soon after I finish the Heroine schedule here. It's the one thing that I most look forward to.

So, the marriage is on for next year?
Yes, soon after the release of Agent Vinod. We are yet to finalise the date though, as it would depend on the release date of the film.

In February, right?
Well, I don't know. It's more likely to be a March wedding actually. In any case, it's all undecided yet.

You have been voted the sexiest Asian woman…How does that make you feel?
Being sexy is well, sexy! Tags have never meant much, but yes being called sexy is always a compliment that women, including me, love. I had never thought about it, so it came as a surprise and yes, it's exciting too, after all which woman would not like being called sexy. But the best compliment came from Saif when he said, that I am the sexiest in the world (laughs).

What do you prefer, sexy titles or hit films?
Hit films definitely. Sexy titles are only the icing, but the real substance has to be the performance. Call me a 100 crore heroine over sexy any day!

What do you think is the sexiest thing about you?
My curves! I think getting them back have made all the difference. But no, seriously, I think in my case it's impossible to separate the body of work from the body per se (smiles). It's the personality overall that makes you sexy and that includes your work too na.

Do you think that the recent wax statue installation and now this have put you leagues ahead in thecompetition?
There is no competition! I think each one of us is running our own race, but like I said, more than the tags, my work speaks for itself. And if it's about number game, then well, I'll let the numbers at the BO play that game.

Kareena Kapoor tops sexiest Asian woman list

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor has emerged as the sexiest Asian woman in the world, according to a survey.

Eastern Eye, a weekly, conducted a survey through social networking sites like twitter and Kareena came out on top, edging out last year's winner Katrina Kaif.

Kareena, who recently gave hits like Bodyguard and RA.One, won by one per cent of votes, the narrowest ever margin and beat off tough competition from some of the most stunning women from around the world.

Katrina, who had won the title for the last three years by a large margin, slipped into second place.

Eastern Eye showbiz editor Asjad Nazir said, "This battle between the two beauties is a sign of things to come in Bollywood in the next few years. Although the list contained pop stars, TV personalities, models and film stars from around the world, the voting quite comprehensively showed that Kareena and Katrina have put a distance between themselves and the rest of the contenders in terms of popularity."

Hrithik Roshan's wife Sussanne received a massive number of votes and was one of the highest new entries at number 16.

Other notable stars in the list included Priyanka Chopra (3), and Bipasha Basu (4), who both slipped down one place each. Freida Pinto came 5th, followed by Deepika Padukone (7).

New entries included Jacqueline Fernandez (12), Nargis Fakhri (23) and Sonakshi Sinha (38).

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan came 6th and Sonam Kapoor 9th. Lara Dutta stood at number 15 and Malaika Arora Khan at 19.
