Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is a hollywood style romcom

Kareena is ending the year with a blockbuster (BODYGUARD) and a hit (RA.ONE). Even though the Number One crown is pretty much sitting right on her head, Kareena has always maintained that the number game doesn't quite matter for her. Still, in Bollywood where money does all the talking, does she still stick to her stand that being acknowledged as a commercially viable superstar doesn't matter?

'No of course it does matter,' Kareena calls spade a spade here, 'After all, in this industry you are as good as your last film. Eventually it is all about the commercial viability of the stars. Bollywood is about entertainment; this is what that sells here and we can't change that. In fact we must not try to change that and balance it all. This is what I have and will always believe in; one needs to play the balancing act. I may try to please everyone but at the end of it all, basically I have to entertain my fans. I can and should never forget that basic aspect of my journey as an actress.'

One can well see Kareena playing a balancing act. Otherwise what else can explain her willingness to work with a young leading man like Imran Khan when all her 'box office centuries' so far have been with men who are aged at least 40 years or above?

'EK MAIN AUR EKK TU is the kind of film that I haven't done for a really long time so yes, I am pretty much doing a balancing act here,' agrees Kareena, 'I am enjoying this phase in my career where I am shifting genres with practically every film and now with this film, I am getting into a very Hollywood style romcom space. There are hardly any movies belonging to this genre that are made in Bollywood and trust me when I say that this is one film which would also make critics happy.'

Sure Kareena, we would love to see that.

Kareena Kapoor spends time with Saif's family

Actor Kareena Kapoor stepped out with beau Saif Ali Khan’s family, mother Sharmila Tagore and sisters Soha and Saba Ali Khan, on Sunday.

Spotted at the Jaipur Polo Grounds in the Capital, they came to attend the Bhopal-Pataudi Polo Cup 2011, held in memory of Saif’s father, Nawab Mansur
Ali Khan of Pataudi, who passed away in September this year.

When the family arrived at the grounds, fans started greeting Saif with chants of Nawab, Nawab. The couple, expected to tie the knot early next year, was in a chatty mood and sat close together, holding hands.

Two of Kareena's films releasing within a gap

For Kareena Kapoor, the unthinkable has happened. Despite her efforts to keep the release dates of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and Agent Vinod separate, they have coincided, with just a week’s gap between the two. Which means she will have to divide the time she has at her disposal between promoting the two films. So, why is this a quandary, you ask. Well, because while Agent Vinod is Bebo’s beau Saif Ali Khan’s home production (and a terribly important one at that), Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is being produced by one of Bebo’s closest buddies Karan Johar.

“Most actors like to keep a gap of at least two months between their films,” points out a trade expert. “So this would be a tough time for Kareena as not only would she have to promote both films simultaneously, she will also have to contend with the fact that her own Agent Vinod will cut into Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’s run.”

So what Bebo has on her hands is a classic case of her personal life impinging on her professional one. Also, it isn’t just a choice between her beau and her buddy because “both films feature her in strong protagonist roles and are very close to her heart”, says a friend. Truly, a tough choice for Bebo.

Rhea Kapoor designs for Kareena!

Imran Khan shared screen space with Sonam Kapoor in Karan Johar’s I Hate Luv Storys (2010). Ever since, he has been very close to Sonam as well as her sister Rhea. And even as Imran gets ready for his next release, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, his co-star Kareena Kapoor too has grown close to Rhea.

In fact, not many know that for the first look launch of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Rhea had designed Kareena’s dress while Karan himself did Imran’s wardrobe. Rhea, till date, has only designed for her sister Sonam.

Imran-Kareena starrer Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, for the uninitiated, is about a one-night marriage of an impulsive couple. Imran, Kareena along with Karan and director Shakun Batra recently launched the trailers of the movie, which have begun drawing a lot of interest in theatres. Coming back to Kareena and Rhea’s connect, it’s being looked upon as an interesting combo considering Rhea is considered the brain behind Sonam’s stylish avatars. Sonam, quite famously, is hailed as a style icon.

Bebo-Lolo to clash

If all goes according to plan, then come June next year, Bollywood will witness, what could be aptly called the “box office clash of the decade”.

No, it’s not the rival Khans that we are talking about. This time it will be the war of the sisters with Kareena and Karisma Kapoor pitting their films Talaash and Dangerous Ishq against each other at the box office. An industry insider says, “It would be a precarious situation if this clash happens. While Bebo’s Talaash has been confirmed on June 1, Karisma’s film too is aiming to release around the same time. Even though the film is yet to close on a date, it still risks an arrival that would be too close for comfort.” Trade gurus feel that Kareena’s film with Aamir Khan being a biggie, won’t budge from its spot. Therefore, Karisma will have to play it smart and minimise the risks.

“But the month being already packed with big releases such as Rowdy Rathore and Bol Bachchan, there’s hardly any room left for Dangerous Ishq to shift its dates.” With one sister who is the current reigning queen of Bollywood and the other trying to revive her lost glory, this clash won’t be short of any filmi potboiler.
