Hrithik and Kareena are good dancers says Saroj Khan

So recently, while attending an event she was asked who her favorite dancer is. She replied ‘Madhuri Dixit‘ saying, “I have repeatedly said this and my answer has not changed. It is Madhuri Dixit.”

From the current generation who she thinks are the good dancers, and Saroj Khan takes names of Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. “Hrithik Roshan dances very well. Amongst actresses, I think Kareena is good,” says Saroj Khan.

Talking about the modernization of dance and young choreographers, she says, “There is no change or modernisation of dance taking place. There is nothing new that today’s dance techniques have to offer. It has all been there. And about the new choreographers, let them take the field now.”

When asked what does she think of dance, “I believe dance is the best form of art. You cannot touch music. A painting or a sculpture has no life, but you can pose like a sculpture while dancing; you can take the colours from a painting with your clothes and sets. You can dance to music,” says Ms.Khan.

Jab Kareena met Kareena

London is pretty blase about Indian film stars who practically live in the UK, but for the seaside resort of Blackpool somewhere far in the north-west of England, the madness of Bollywood was a novel experience.

To be fair, Madame Tussauds Blackpool, a separate entity from Madame Tussauds London, where all previous waxwork models of Hindi film actors have been unveiled, appear to have done an excellent job with Kareena Kapoor.

“Obviously, the thought of being immortalised is very, very scary, there’s just two of me in the world which is just extremely humbling and such a big honour and I’m very excited,” said Kareena, who arrived to the beating of Indian dhols.

Though she has been busy promoting Ra.One - she attended the London premiere with Shah Rukh Khan - she did have a couple of good lines of dialogue worked out for when she met her equally fetching double.

Kareena.1 gave her Kareena.2 a coy glance as though to say: “Impossible, no one can be as beautiful as that.”

A few among the 1,000 fans of Hindi cinema who turned up for today’s unveiling thought she said: “This looks even more beautiful than me,” or something like that.

A lovesick young Indian youth seemed lost for words: “She’s so beautiful, I’m so shocked at how beautiful she is - stunning!”

The new desi generation in England is certainly being bred on Bollywood from a very early age.

A young Indian girl confessed: “My heart’s beating so fast right now I think I’m going to faint.”

Kareena, who arrived with mother Babita, was clearly delighted with the result, the work of award winning sculptor Amelia Rowcroft.

Her waxwork, which took four months to create at a cost of £150,000, takes pride of place at the new Blackpool attraction alongside other figures from the world of TV, music and sport.

“The figure looks incredible and is so lifelike, I had to do a double take when I saw myself - they have really done a superb job at capturing my essence,” acknowledged Kareena.

She disclosed that the person she would most like to stand next to was Johnny Depp. “I’m a huge fan,” she disclosed.

“It is an honour and a privilege for me to have my own wax figure at Madame Tussauds Blackpool and even more so to launch a global Bollywood exhibition,” she added. “This is a moment of pride for Indian cinema.”

A special “Bollywood Room” has been created where Kareena’s model is joining duplicates of those in London - Shah Rukh, Hrithik Roshan, Amitabh Bachchan and a new figure of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (and no, it does not show her baby bump).

This display will remain in place until January 2012 when the Bollywood five will begin a world tour, starting with Bangkok.

Fan Anil Singh, aged 24, from Birmingham melted on meeting Kareena: “She is absolutely beautiful, she looks just like she does on film. Plus her figure is amazing - so glamorous just like the real Kareena. The whole Bollywood experience is magical and a real must see for all, whether they are Bollywood fans or not!”

The museum described Kareena as the “star of over 40 films, whose last three films feature in the top five Bollywood box office blockbusters of all time,” and as “ an icon in the world of Bollywood”.

It said her “fans travelled from across the globe just to get a glimpse of her, showing the loyalty of the global megastar’s fans”.

Kareena may not realise this but she represents an important aspect of the plan to revive the Blackpool area. Madame Tussauds Blackpool is part of a £20million regeneration plan for the iconic Blackpool Tower and Promenade.

This plan “is at the heart of the Blackpool Council’s investment plan to bring over 800,000 more visitors to the resort and take what is already one of the best loved and most iconic seaside destinations in Europe into the premier league as an exceptional new family holiday destination”.

It is hoped Kareena will bring in the Indian crowds.

Of course, I would love to work with Hrithik Roshan : Kareena

The actor however, reveals that nothing was finalised ever. “Karan (Johar) and I had casually spoken about it, but we never discussed it after that. Karan is like family to me and I will do whatever he asks me to do,” she says without batting an eyelid. And what about doing a film with Hrithik? “Of course, Why not?” Kareena says.

“I would love to work with Duggu, but the real thing is that we haven’t been offered anything substantial together yet. If and when anything that we like comes up, I would love to work with him,” she adds.

On a professional high after her last release with actor Salman Khan, she is now looking forward to her Diwali release with actor Shah Rukh Khan and is excited about her song getting rave reviews. Kareena says that she was always confident that the song would be a hit. “Honestly, I always knew the song would be a hit, right from the first time Shah Rukh made me listen to it. It has a catchy tune to it and it has a mass appeal with Akon singing. I am happy with the way it has turned out.”

While she is awaiting her Diwali release, she is also set to unveil her wax statue at Madame Tussauds in London. She says it hasn’t yet sunk in that she will be joining the likes of actors Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. “It is the culmination of everything that I have worked hard for. I will only believe it once I see it for real,” she says.

Besides that, the actor was recently in the news for apparently having problems with beau Saif Ali Khan’s co-star Deepika Padukone. She was reportedly not happy with the way the duo was bonding on the sets. Ask her about it and she rubbishes it.

“Saif is free to work with whoever he wants and likes. Usually I don’t even know who his co-star is because we don’t discuss these things at all. I don’t have any problems with any of his co-stars.”

Kareena's Diet and Exercise Regime

Kareena Kapoor says she woke up one day and said, “I want to be fit. Really fit. Not just look toned.” That was seven years ago. Now Bebo has one of the most fit, volutuous bodies in the industry. When one thinks of Kareena, one does not objectify her abs, or calves -- what we envy is the complete package of a beautiful face and curvy body.

“I was 68-69 kilos when I started; went down to almost 50 for Tashan and decided that the skinny look was not for me. I wanted to be curvy and feminine, so came up to 66 kilos. I like looking like this,” she says, champagne eyes sparkling on her alabaster complexion. What’s unbelievable is that Kareena manages this through yog and a strict diet that includes everything.

“I believe in the holistic approach. I want to be fit internally and eat everything. Yoga helps me do that,” she says. And not the new-fangled power or artistic yoga. Kareena follows Yog without the ‘a’. Her trainer Twinkle Singh says no two workouts are alike. Says Twinkle, “Kareena buys books, DVDs and every day, she’ll tell me what she feels like doing. If she’s had a hectic schedule, we’ll concentrate on pranayams and bandhas. She’s clued-in to what her body needs.”

Listening to her body is also the crux of her diet. “It’s not as much a diet, because I eat everything!” says Kareena. Not for her the morning detox of warm water with honey and lemon, the metabolism boosting green teas and banishing of carbs.”I love cheese and have a cheddar sandwich every day at 5. I also have a bowl of spaghetti every alternate night with olive oil and fresh sauce made from scratch,” she says.

Kareena’s diet is regimented by sports nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar who believes in eating fresh, local food in small portions every two hours. Kareena has become such an expert at juggling her meals that she jokes that she can now serve as Rujuta’s assistant.

“I told Rujuta that I can’t give up my dal-chaval-subzi. In fact, I just had dosas for lunch with nariyal chutney.” And what about little sinful treats? “There are no cheats when you can eat everything, in limited quantity. Fries, pizza and cheese are my weaknesses. And I have these whenever I want. Rujuta is against cutting off carbs.”

Work out

Kareena has a history of bad back and stomach problems. “With yoga, my back muscles have become so strong that they support the spine effortlessly. Pranayam and kapal bhati took care of my stomach problems and immune system,” she says. Twinkle adds, “Kareena needs stamina because of her hectic routine. We do inverted bends that send blood gushing to her face, brain and eyes. It makes her skin glow and her eyes sparkle.”

Twinkle mixes up Ashtanga and Iyengar yog and focuses on holding poses for longer rather than doing them hurriedly. “I have Punjabi genes and easily put weight on my arms,” says Kareena ruefully. “So I do handstands. I can hold for one minute and we do 4-5 in a session.”

They also do a lot of backward and forward bending asanas, shoulder and headstands and a variation of suryanamaskars, which are full-body exercises. “I can do 40-80,” says Kareena proudly. “Before shooting Chammak Challo, I would do 40 in the morning.” Some sessions only have varieties of suryanamaskars and those days, Bebo does around a 100.

Yog also allows Kareena to be “light on her feet”, a crucial job requirement. It also works out the neck and facial muscles. “Bebo does shirsasan extremely gracefully,” says Twinkle. “So she doesn’t put on weight as easily, despite eating what she wants. Earlier, Kareena suffered from vertigo, which does not hinder her now.”

For balancing the system, keeping the glands healthy and reducing stress, there is pranayam and its advanced form, bandhas.

Kareena does up to 600 repetitions of kapal bhatti to flush out toxins, 2-3 minutes of anulom-vilom which calms the mind. Bandhas concentrate on holding your breath in different postures for 30 seconds or more, this concentrates on holding your energy.

When on holiday, or on outstation shoots, Kareena likes, “Long walks in the Alps. Here there is no place for walks and the heat is sapping.”

Diet

“Bebo’s diet principle is KISS -- Keep it simple and be smart with your food,” says Rujuta. “She’s involved with her meal plans, in tune with her hunger signals and understands that food nourishes beyond just the body.”

So it’s appam in Kerala, momos in Ladakh and pasta and cheese in Europe. “The idea is to eat more when more active and vice versa. She has learnt to nurture her appetite and not suppress it,” adds Rujuta. Kareena plans her food breaks and takes along home-made snacks such as nuts, chana and makhana.

She’s vegetarian and takes supplements as her vitamin and mineral requirements are higher than those working a 9- 5 desk job. Since there is no such thing as “bad” food, she plans and relishes sweets and mithai in her diet without feeling guilty.

She wakes up to a fruit, usually a banana, and then has a solid breakfast. Every meal is two hours apart dinner is two hours before bedtime. If she is still hungry, she’ll have a bowl of soup or a glass of milk. Fruits and fruit juices also form snacks.

She drinks two cups of chai with milk and coffee is also slotted into her meals. Apart from that, it’s about three litres of water and avoids packaged or processed foods.

► We do inverted bends that send blood rushing to her face. It makes her skin glow and her eyes sparkle

Her diet plan roughly follows this path, and timings are adjusted around her schedule:

Within 10 minutes of waking up
Meal 1 A Banana

Two hours later
Meal 2 Roti + Sabzi + Dal

Two hours later
Meal 3 Bowl of curd

Two hours later
Meal 4 Cheese toast

Two hours later
Meal 5 Home-made poha or idli + Nariyal pani and malai

Two hours later
Meal 6 Small bowl of Makhana

Two hours later
Meal 7 Veg pulao with mushrooms, a fresh light subzi or dal or chaas
