Kareena Kapoor wala red is dictating fashion trends

Closer home, Kareena Kapoor seems to own a fiery red of her own - the red haute sari she wears in the Chammak Challo in the upcoming Diwali release Ra.One. But naturally, since Kereena is Bollywood’s reigning heroine - and since Bollywood dictates fashion and makeup trends in India - fashion forwards want to own this particular red this season, no other will do - only the Kareena Kapoor wala red! She definitely does not need a Twitter account to be “followed” - her onscreen presence is enough to cause a fashion following of her very own, and bet you anything, she knows that too.

Mumbai’s most affable and jet-setting glamazon, Roopa Fabiani, has turned to red after watching the Chammak Challo song. “It is that time of the year again when warmer colours dominate your moods. Kareena looks so good in that red haute colour that it makes everyone want to wear red, including me! For the festive season, I have asked my favourite designers, Neeta Lulla, Suneet Varma and Rohit Bal to make me some outfits in the Kareena Kapoor wala red,” laughs Roopa.

Samidha Wanganoo, a fashion stylist for Bollywood films who is currently working on Agent Vinod, that stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, hears out people requesting her for the Kareena red every day. “The way Kareena carries off the red sari, it makes people want to wear it more. Red is a fiery colour and a very bold one too, so it is not an easy colour for anyone and everyone to pull off. Every day, since the Chammak Challo song came out, I am asked by women to make them look like Kareena in the song! They ask me to either get them an outfit just like Kareena’s in the exact shade or get them anything in that shade of red. It is insane how Kareena has caused a sort of fashion hysteria with her little red sari in the song. Everyone wants to wear red! It makes the haute black look so redundant now,” says Samidha.

But Sangita Kathiwada, creative director of Morarka Foundation and her store in Mumbai, Melange, that houses some of the best designer labels in India, is not quite convinced Kareena has anything to do with the colour, though she does think saris will sell after the Chammak Challo song.

She says: Red is a fiery colour - it brings out the good and as much bad. This is the season for bright colours and earthy tones, red being the most popular. Red has got nothing to do with today - it is the colour of blood. My association with the colour is that of flowers, spirituality, puja and the eternal life force. The colour has had great significance in old civilization and temporary and contemporary heroines donning the colour have nothing to do with its popularity. What is Kareena Kapoor wala red? I mean Kareena is gorgeous and looks lovely in the Chammak Challo song and many more saris will sell because she just looks stunning wearing it. But I still wouldn’t go as far as calling it the Kareena Kapoor wala red.

It is not just the fashion forwards in India who are favouring the red, but those on the island of Mauritius are too. Kiran Gidwani-Tolaram, a fashion consultant and designer in Mauritius is being flooded with demands for the Kareena Kapoor wala red. “The red that Kareena is wearing in the song is a very vibrant and hot shade. It is natural when someone as stunning as her wears a bold colour like that, it is bound to be in vogue and dictate trends. Bollywood is big here on the island. The Mauritian Prime Minister’s wife, Veena Ramgoolam’s favourite colour is that Kareena wala red. In my stores here, the biggest demand currently is the Kareena wala red and I am going nuts just getting my orders for the same. Everyone walks in wanting an outfit in that shade or the same outfit which is just not possible!” says Kiran.

Swati Shah, Director of Estaa, a luxury jewellery store in Mumbai, where Hollywood stars like Hugh Jackman like to drop cash for the big rocks, loves wearing red during Diwali and the festive season. “I have always worn deeper shades during the festive season, red saris being my favourite. But I think this season I am going to wear more red saris than ever before since Kareena has made the look so popular! Just yesterday, some of my friends were discussing how absolutely stunning Kareena is and what a natural beauty she is. She looks good in anything, but she looks spectacular in the red sari in the song. Personally, I think a red sari looks best when worn with a pearl and diamond set with just a hint of rubies.”

And no, red rubies haven’t managed to upstage the popularity and demand for emeralds, which reign supreme in the bling business despite all the Kareena wala red hoopla.

Louboutin may just lose the “sole” battle for its coveted red underlining of its shoes to YSL, but Kareena seems to have inadvertently patented the red she swings her hips in to Chammak Challo. Don’t be surprised if this shade of red officially gets dubbed the Kareena Kapoor wala red in the near future!

Kareena wants to go the Meryl Streep way

Constant speculation of her marriage has put many a producer on the back foot as far as signing Kareena Kapoor for projects in 2012 goes.

However Bebo fails to understand why this whole marriage mechanism should affect her career. The actress is not even willing to talk about the wedding issue right now since her beau Saif Ali Khan recently lost

his father, Tiger Pataudi. And all of them are going through a quiet time. But more important, Bebo wants it to be known that even after marriage she has no plans to hang up her boots.

Says she, I will act till I live. For me acting is like air, food and water an essential ingredient.'' Kareena says --I want to go the Meryl Streep way from next year. I'd like to some heavy duty performance oriented films.''

She makes a start with Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine and sometime in the future she wants to do movies like The Devil Wears Prada, Bridges of Madison County and Mama Mia. I'm a Meryl Streep fan and

I think age or marital status can never be a deterrent for an actor. The only thing that one needs is passion. Like I said, acting is like the air I breathe. Its that essential.''

No new films for Kareena till Heroine wraps up

For the last few years, actor Kareena Kapoor’s date diary has been jam-packed with several big projects. As a result, she has been shooting for multiple films simultaneously for a while. But now, Kareena “isn’t going to shoot for anything else” while she works on Madhur Bhandarkar’s forthcoming movie, Heroine.

“It’s going to be a very aggressive and tiring film. I have to give my life to it; otherwise, there’s no point in doing it. So, I simply can’t take up anything else during that time,” says Kareena. That is why she’s working hard to wrap up Karan Johar’s upcoming production, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu co-starring Imran Khan, by the end of the month. “Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 will start only in March,” she adds.

On her role in Heroine, she claims she’s “never played a character that is so bipolar and schizophrenic”. “It’s very crazy. I don’t think any other actor has played such a character in recent times. I have to, for the first time in my career, concentrate only on one film,” says

Kareena.

To ensure a perfect outing in Heroine, the actor has set up a meeting with Madhur, designer Manish Malhotra, her hair stylist and make-up artiste on October 10.

“By the end of this month, Manish will fly to New York, Paris and Milan to shop for about 100 costumes. We are going to discuss each and every one of those. So, it’s going to be a marathon meeting for five to six hours because we are going through every look,” she says.

Besides not taking up new films, Kareena is also in no mood to make merry despite being part of the year’s biggest blockbuster so far, Bodyguard. “I haven’t had time to enjoy and celebrate my success. But that can wait because right now, Saif (boyfriend-actor Saif Ali Khan) and his family need me more. And that is what’s important for me,” says Kareena, who has the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer RA.One coming up this Diwali.

Is it true that Shah Rukh asked her to take RA.One promotions easy, since Saif recently lost his father, the

legendary cricketer Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi? “He is a friend. And he knows our loss. It’s been tough, but we are slowly getting back to work. I have always kept my films and personal life separate, and I’m sure Shah Rukh understands that. Plus, everyone knows I’m in the film and that’s more than enough,” she says.

"Saif is very brave" - Kareena

Actor Kareena Kapoor cancelled all her birthday (September 21) celebrations plans and flew to be by her beau, actor Saif Ali Khan's side when his father, cricketing legend Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi succumbed to lung infection the next day.

"It was too personal a loss for me to even talk about it," she says. "Saif is family to me and so is his family. At that point, all I wanted to do was to be with them in their times of crisis."

It's been reported that Saif broke down on the sets of his home production, Agent Vinod shortly after resuming work. Kareena refutes it saying, "Saif is a very brave person and knows how to handle himself very well. He is way too strong and private to even let anybody know what he is going through. His emotions and feelings are very sacred to him; he would never let it out in front of anyone. He is too dignified to do that."

There are reports of her marriage to Saif, which was supposedly scheduled to happen in February, being pushed further. "I don't understand these constant speculations especially when we both have always been open about our relationship," retorts Bebo. "We have never lied or hidden anything, so if there's announcement to be made, we'd do the same. Right now, we both are just completely focused on our film together."

Besides looking ahead to her releases with the other Khans ? Shah Rukh and Aamir, she's also visibly excited about sister Karisma Kapoor's comback to films. "Till date, it was just me who was busy, but now, Karisma too will be equally busy. I called her up thrice today, and each time her Man Friday picked up the phone and said, 'Madam baat nahi kar sakti, shot mein hai.' It was weird but felt great! I am extremely happy for her. At this age, she looks outstanding and has maintained herself really well. She looks better than most actresses today, and can give them a run for their money," gushes Bebo.

Why Kareena will skip RA.One premiere in Toronto

Kareena Kapoor, better known of late as the 'Khan Queen', finds herself in an awkward situation thanks to that very celebrated title. The dates of the Toronto premiere of her RA.One with Shah Rukh Khan and the shooting schedule of Reema Katgi's Dhuaan with Aamir Khan are apparently clashing.

Not surprisingly Bebo has chosen Mr Perfectionist, the Khan she has been raving about ever since their blockbuster film 3 Idiots, over G One. A source, however, defends her decision of choosing Aamir over SRK.

"Kareena has to take some special training for an underwater sequence in the film and she needs time for that too. So going for the premiere is out of the question." The shoot sequence in question was supposed to be shot in the outskirts of Mumbai. It was cancelled last minute due to certain technical issues.

Now, apparently, the location for the shoot has been finally finalised. Since it's one of the last few scenes to be shot, it cannot be delayed again. Adds the source, "Kareena is the female lead and SRK obviously wants her around as much as possible. She is trying her best to attend the Dubai and London premieres because she does not want to miss the international premieres of her film."

However, she has not been able to work around her dates for the third global premiere. "This film is obviously her biggest this year, and she definitely wants to be a part of all promotional events. It's just unfortunate that the premiere is now clashing with the shoot dates of Dhuaan." The actress will be shooting for Dhuaan on October 26, and hence will not be part of the premiere in Toronto or any other promotional activity on that day for the Shah Rukh-starrer.
